VOLUNTEER COACHES NEEDED

Volunteering as a Coach: The Ponte Vedra Soccer Club always needs volunteer coaches for our youth recreational teams. Don’t worry if you haven’t coached before, or even played. We have a "New to Coaching" program that will help you prepare for your coaching experience for both practices and game days. All teams must have an approved coach or co-coach at each practice and game.  These volunteer positions are vital to the success of PVSC.

FAQ

I've never coached and/or played soccer.  Is coaching still right for me?

Absolutely!  We have the tools you will need to have the confidence to be a coach for the PVSC. First and foremost, we are one of the only soccer clubs that have professional trainers at each and every practice.  They are not only there to train the players, but can assist you with any questions or concerns you may have during practices.  You will also receive a coaching manual.  This resource will offer you tidbits of information on how to conduct your half of practices as well as what is expected from you on game day.  Our staff is always on hand to support your commitment to PVSC.

NEW for this year, we will be offering up to three training sessions exclusively for all our coaches. Learn the skills you need to build your confidence and tools you can use to help your team succeed in the game of soccer and beyond.

What are the time commitments?
About 3-4 hours a week...

  • U8 and younger: Developmental soccer practices take place once a week for about 60min per session. Our Director of Coaching will send you information on what drills to run for each week. You should run the drills and focus on the skill of the week for about the first 30 minutes of practice and then move to small-sided games or scrimmage for the remainder of practice.

  • U9 and Older: Recreational soccer practices take place up to twice a week. The first practice is for about 60min per session. Our Director of Coaching will send you information on what drills to run for each week. You should run the drills and focus on the skill of the week for about the first 30 minutes of practice and then move to small-sided games or scrimmage for the remainder of practice. The second practice will be conducted by you on Thursday's and will also be 60min long. We will have our trained coaching staff on hand to assist when you need help.

  • Games for U10 and younger take place typically on Saturdays. U12 and older teams may have games on other days.  These games last anywhere from 45min to 75min depending on the age group.

  • Communication with your team. You will send emails reminding them of game times, what color jersey to wear, and any schedule changes or cancellations.  this should take no more than 30min a week.

I'm not sure if I can be at every practice or game, is there still a place for me to coach?

YES!  If you believe you can make most of the time commitments, but can't promise to be at every practice and game, then you can co-coach a team along with another co-coach. Together you will be able to fulfill the time commitments

and have a successful season with your team.

Will I be able to coach my child?

YES!  All you have to do is register as a coach while registering your child.  If you request to coach via email (info@pontevedrasoccerclub.com) just include your child's name and age in the email

Okay, I'm interested, what are the next steps?

All you have to do is register as a coach when you register your child.  You can also email us at info@pontevedrasoccerclub.com and let us know if you want to become a Coach or Co-Coach, your child's name, and their age.

All volunteer coaches must pass a background check provided by PVSC which is valid through July of each year. They must also complete a short CDC Concussion course and test.
